Brace yourself, the LET’s TALK #30 | Interview with Amy Offutt is a tear jerker!
When I first heard Amy say that her baby’s diagnosis indicated she wasn’t going to make it, I thought, “Oh, yeah, this is going to be a great testimony about how her daughter beat the odds! So I’m listening, listening…waiting for the happy ending. But then she reveals that no, baby Ella didn’t make it! What?! What?!
And then to hear that afterwards they have a miscarriage AND then get pregnant again for the third time, but the odds are not favorable for their new baby Carly….I’m thinking oh my dear Lord! This story is not going in the direction that I had originally assumed.
But during all of this Amy shares how she and her husband kept their eyes on God. They continued to move forward in faith that God was going to heal and cover their family. And God sure did show up! At a crucial follow-up appointment, their doctor delivered these beautiful words.
“I don’t even see the spot on her heart anymore. You are free to go.”
Can you imagine the relief! I was already a hot mess just listening to Amy’s story, but I would have given anything to be a fly on the wall that day!
I also really appreciated how talks about how this also affected her doctor in a positive way. So many times doctors don’t get to deliver good news. How tough this must be on them as well. But this time, this doctor didn’t have to guard his heart!
Through this, Amy started a printing business called Ella Mae designs—named after her first daughter who passed away at birth. This business is a testimony of how God is faithful. God took something harmful and turned it into a blessing. In the interview, Teresa Ann references Jeremiah 29:11.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Over the years, Amy describes how she learned how present God really is. She shares how grateful she is that God was in every detail of her past as well as her present life. I loved it when she said, “God’s in my business.” I think she meant how God was in her printing business, but her statement also summed up how God is ever present, always knowing and always caring.
