Before our son was born, I used to cry out to the Lord for a child. In fact, I would often say to the Lord, “God, I am Hannah. I will do as she did. If you will give me a son, I will give him back to you.” I told him, “I will introduce him to you and I will teach him your ways.”
As soon as I learned that I was pregnant, I put this promise into practice. I read the word of God to our child and sang songs of praise to God. When our little guy surprised us at 5 weeks early that he was ready to come out, he only weighed 4lbs 14oz. (I later realized that there was significance surrounding his weight.)
By the time I was able to hold our little guy for the first time in the NICU, I already had my three songs picked out to sing to him. Of course I need to introduce myself, so first I said, “Hi baby,” then I proceeded to sing ‘Jesus Loves Me‘, ‘He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands‘, and ‘Jesus, Name Above All Names‘ to him.
Although, my husband and I had not yet chosen a name at the time that our son was born, after 5 days of prodding from the hospital, we finally agreed on the name of Chase.
I declared, “Chase will chase after God all of the days of his life.” The cool part is that I soon came to a deeper understanding that God’s goodness and mercy chases Chase all of the days of his life. (Referencing Psalm 23:6)
A little more about me…I love making things for children and creating places to play and rest that inspire relationship with God. I make stuffed animals and dolls, paint murals, sew anything that you can imaging for your home, and I also enjoy designing fashion accessories—particular jewelry and purses.
I believe that we can teach our children how to be a bright in a world of darkness from a very early age. In childhood education, it’s been proven that children learn best through play. I take this same approach when I’m teaching Chase or other kiddos that they are a child of the most high God. I use this approach with everything that I make and design for children—whether it’s a mural, a pillow with a special message, a doll that looks like the child or a book.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds – Hebrews 10:24
My most recent accomplishment is writing, Little White Dog. This book was just published in September 2020—one year after launching this site. 😉 After I wrote the book, I realized that my Word document was exactly 4 pages and broken out into 14 sections. While writing the book itself came very easy to do (which showed me the power of Holy Spirit), actually creating the book was way more effort than I thought it would be. I couldn’t believe the amount of effort that had gone into such a “little” project! The amount of effort reminded me of the birth of my son. I had gained 65 pounds, yet he only weighed 4lbs 14oz when he was born. I also went through 4 printed drafts to get it just right—but with one final prayer and a push, the book was complete. My friend Angela Formby created the illustrations and she captured Obie’s personality beautifully.
I recently finished another book for children to help them through fear during bedtime. And….my favorite project so far is a book about Chaser Bunny. I first created Chaser Bunny as a stuffed animal for my son, but soon realized that there was much more to this sweet bunny that I originally thought. This particular book has turned into a chapter book (which has blown my mind) and I’ve completed chapter one. It is such a precious story that I’ve been writing with God and I have much excitement to get it completed!
Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life. – Psalm 23:6 (The Message)
In 2011, less than a year after my son was born, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. I had the thyroid removed along with 70 lymph nodes from my neck. I have a scar that runs the length of just under my right ear and across my neck. Most people cannot see it, however I still can feel the tightness of the scar tissue from inside. I have a few scars as well from the drainage tubes. This was another amazing story of God’s grace and mercy over my life. I am still dealing with some side effects from the thyroid medication included unwanted weight gain, but I am alive, happy and whole!!
